I busted a gearbox mount once and it made exactly that noise as the gearbox took up the engine load in 1st... but I guess that's unlikey as you would have a new mount right?

um when i fitted the toyota box i found that my uni angles where al um the creek this gave a wiring type noise under high load take offs it also wore out unis really quick

My bet is the gearbox is touching the body somewhere.
I had the same problem many years ago with a toyota 5 speed behind A14 even pulled the box out and striped it down was only just touching but made a terrible whiring sound.

i have this wierd noise in my ute when i take off in first gear. it is a brand new celica box so im sure box aint rooted. the noise sort of sounds like a' jack in the box' winding up. thats best i can explain it ...
is it my diff???
my rear susp.
i cant tell if its coming from rear or what.
please help!!!!!!!!!!!
