This is a bit of a long shot, but you might want to try replacing the spark leads. I seriously doubt anyone has them any moe, but if they are the old, old carbon type, then they'll cause noise with new head units. Also, if the condenser on the dizzy if faulty, it can cause hassles and finally, believe it or not, if the car is simply out of tune, it can cause it. But like I said, they are in the "Unlikely" section. But what can it hurt to check ??? That way you might be able to turn the gain back up

Since the problem went away when the ground was connected to the battery, try replacing the ground strap from the battery to the frame to the engine block and make sure the contact points are clean.

I don't recomment spiffy ground wire kits, but you can run some additional ground points all on your own and it'll help a little with spark strength and may make headlights brighter.

Condensers are on points and alternators.
Capacitors store power for voltage peaks.
Amplifiers do exactly that - amplify
If the radio has noise or is picking up noise - the amp will just amplify it.
Turn the gain down

um just any electrical store nah dono why an amp would do it but headuits can do. some headunits have capacitors in them. you can buy larger capacitors for the amp but they are just to help your battery out from the constant drian of the amp. have a look on www.howstuffworks.com

is a capacitor the same as the thing -filter? i'm talking about ?? and do they wear out ??? aaaaannd why would it be now be making the noise with the amp and not before hand ???

sorry for all these q's but stereos and amps are beyond me and electricity's invisible and it bites so i tend to leave it alone
