Matt I feel your pain , vintage requires I run an A-series......if it were just the track day and tarmac rally I would be doing a twin cam swap for sure...............it's still fun to have a guy start to out brake you only to go past him still on the gas into fast sweepers.

Not sure whether I'm a 1200 owner who races or a Racer with a 1200.... probably the second but I love doing it in a 1200.

Ditto for loving catching and passing 'faster' cars and ditto for needing more horsepower!!!

Sorry about the crap pic, I'll have to ask someone to take a few photos for me sometime
edit- can't get photo to work anyway!

Pressuring the big boys on the corners is nice and all, but they usually won't let you pass on the straights even when told they must do so.

A-Series pride is not enough to keep me from doing a future swap. Reason being that I'm punished for having a "modified" A14 and am often classed with built L20B/SR20DE cars.

Couldn't agree more...Much satisfaction is had when you pass the owner of a modern AWD turbo sports car on the track in a 1200. The look on their face when they later find out the 1200 still has the "Pushrod A-Series engine" is priceless.

Mines not a 1200 but can I still get admission into the club?

I've got horsepower, lightweight....and the handling will continue to get better.. I just don't have the looks of the mighty 1200 coupe!

Oh well......can't have it all.

Yes the under powerd cars just a bit more interesting to drive & it makes it all fun.
I overtook a porche 944 turbo under brakes around MG at philip island then missed 3rd, & still beat him to the finish.
But its even better when you catch up with a car with simalar power then the real fun begins

I agree This is really obvious when supersprinting against road registered cars - they cast a sideways look at the little Datto and dismiss it because they are in the worlds best streetcar and you are in a poxy 4 cylinder. Nothing better than towelling them up around the back of the circuit !!! Another fun activity is to pressure big $$$ cars and watch them try to drive with one eye in the mirror Have had more than one wave me past 'cause of concern that I may rub some paint off !! YEEEEE HAAAAA !
Notwithstanding the above - another 20 HP would be sooooooo good
Cheers

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ , huh what

I think it was more an ADD moment for me.

A big yes on underpowered cars are fun , when you have 78hp or 85HP on hand you have to drive the hell out of the corners.......besides it is fun when somebody in a Lotus Elise catches up at the end of a straght section then slowly falls back in the twisty bits then when they do pass down the next straight they end up with you glued to their bumper for the next set of corners. I recently passed a friend in his boxster.......he didn't like that at all.
