HP=Torque* RPM/5252

As you can see, if you don't have the torque, just rev the engine harder to make the power and gear it to suit, F1 anyone?

Ahh crap, I can't believe I'm getting suckered into this. . .

It is the area under the curve that wins races, well not really, but with a very peaky engine (High power, low torque) you need to keep it "on song" all the time. A nice fat torque spread is more forgiving, and drivable.

"Your 2c is up, are you extending?"

There is enough said on the 'net, over and out. . .

well the saying's wrong. torque does not win races.

bhp is a descriptor of what work you can do in a given time with the torque you have, and the work you want a race car engine to do is accellerate. So power is a better descriptor of how it will accellerate then torque is.

That is why power to weight gives a useful indicator of performance and torque to weight doesn't mean ####.

I have no idea how many times it has been said before, but HP sells cars, while torque wins races.
1200RC's twin turbo may produce a paltry 75kw [paltry??] at the wheels [about 100hp] but boosted engines also produce bags of torque, & that's where the diference often lies, particularly if the torque kicks in down low.
