the steering column in qik1000's 1000 is a 1200 coupe column, because the builder (not me) had to replace the bits that shear in a crash.i think he got the column off of me,because i once got a 1200 coupe that this had happened,& i seem to remember selling the column to somebody.
the 120y coupe i'm driving at the moment has a coupling in the column between it & the steering box.this might be an easier fit than the sunny.

Quik1000, don't know if it's just the column or the whole sterring box/column assembly (1200/sunny) do ya?

Cause I'm gonna need some 'collapsibility' to mine sooner or later...

Theres have a collapsable column in this thing <---

Don't think its a difficult job. Don't know if its a straight bolt-on affair either. I was planning on doing the same mod to my road kb10.

around '72 they went to collapsible in 1200s, in most cars i beleive, earlier had the 'spear'

Anything can be made to fit anything, it is a case of is it worth it.

The only real advantage is the coupling, obviously for servicing reasons this makes things easier, however not being direct drive this means there is a certain degree of flex and it in turn can be a disadvantage.

I believe there MAY be different types, I know the one I tried bolting up would require alot of work, alot of unnecessary work.

I had the entire column and box, the column was much taller and only two bolts would bolt up, the other was facing up into the engine bay. I also questioned as to where the pitman arm was sitting, didn't look promising.

I know that not all stock 1200 columns are collapsable

I think that the stock 1200 column is collapsible too.

Ahem. I have seen the sunny colum in a 1200 coupe and it wasn't a nesesarly hard job to do. It does have some advantages such as being collapsable and quicker steering ratio (if you like that sort of thing). Not saying it's piss easy and not saying it can't be done but like most things I run into no one helps you out when you need it.

anyone know if the sunny steering box can replace the standard 1200 box? i want to do this so i can replace the column. because the sunny seems to have a coupling where the column can be swapped, easier than the 1200.
