If you eventually find that you do need to pull the starter, then don't just replace/ repair the solenoid, but pull the whole thing down for cleaning & inspection, then repair as necessary.
You will kick yourself if you replace the solenoid, only to discover that the brushes wear out a few weeks later.

yeah clicks mean worn out or dirty solenoid. This can be caused also by a faulty ignition switch or wiring.

Pull the high tension lead from the coil that goes to the distributor to stop the engine starting. Use a wire from the starter spade terminal, and when you are away from the motor, push the jumper wire to the positive terminal of the battery...it should crank careful of too much sparks..

If it works every time, then it's the wiring or ignition switch. If it still clicks..it's the solenoid.

id say the solenoid. replace it, then if it still wont start have a look at the terminals on the starter, sometimes they come loose over time. other than that, check all wiring, and check the fuse. a mulitmetre or test light are handy tools for this.
