Factory tach is redlined at 6,500 rpm from memory & the brochure says that max power is developed at 6,000 rpm, but i would keep a stocker down to about 5,000 [or less] for gearshifts because max torque is at 4,000 & you want the revs to drop to something close to this in the next gear.

I bought the PMT tacho [2 of them actually] from Repco in the early 80's & I don't know if they are still listed, but surely SOMEONE still makes a similar thing. Just ask at all the Auto parts stores, & with any luck, one of them will have just what you need. The B310 Sunny used an H150 differential, which is not interchangeable with the 1200 ute's H165, but the original ratio in A12 powered Sunny Sedans & A14 powered Sports Wagons was 3.9 to 1 anyway. If you already have this ratio & still want something a little taller, then the A15 powered Sunny Sporrts Wagon had a 3.7 to 1 ratio. These were the last of the B310 wagons & can be a little hard to find, but they are out there.

If you are doing a lot of highway driving & you think that it's reving a bit high, then see if you can find a 3.9 to 1 diff from early Stanza's or you can find them in Series 1 & 2 Bluebirds that came with either an auto or a five speed. This is the most common ratio in the H165 diff. Our little Datsuns sound about right when running somewhere near 3,500rpm in my experience, & while you shouldn't break it while cruising at 4,000 + rpm, they do start to sound a bit, well,... busy.
I used a small Smiths PMT [pod mounted tachometer] in my 1000 for many years. It is small, mounts on a flat foot that is 'sticky backed' to the steering column, & does a great job, so something like this may be a good idea if engine speeds are a wory.

These engines will run all day at 5000 rpm, and indeed were designed to do so (the speed limit in USA when these cars were new was about 70-75 mph).
At a leisurely 3700 rpm, it should last at least 150,000 miles (240,000 km).
I use regular oil which is good enough, but synthetic is even better for extended high-speed operation.
