Well there are a few things that keep dragging back to own cars older than me ( its only 1 year)
they are by far the coolest looking, bang for buck performance and damn easy to fix ( if you dont go and wack a new engine in like I did)

My brother had borrowed my 1200 ute for a week while his car was off the road. He called me on friday night and said that the car started but nothing happened when he hit the throttle.
I drove up to check it out ( typically it starts to rain) he had somehow snapped the accelerator cable. I sent him back into his office to get uummm I think the words were to the effect of I DONT F(.Y.)G CARE WHAT YOU GET ITS A DATTO JUST BRING ME AT LEAST 4 THINGS.
he returned with a telephone cord some siccors a paper clip and a saftery pin. ( his idea of a joke) but to his shock I was able to rig up a temporary throttle cable and goty the car home to fix another day. that is a few I could think of but if I kept thinking the reasons would keep coming

Lucky bastards........ You get to drive yours.

Mine's still in a million bits.
I keep trying to remember what it is that's motivating me to spend all my time & money on something I can't drive.

At least from all your previous comments it seems as though the end will justify the means.

The reason that keeps me with dattos is the feeling you get from driving them. Even if you pull up next to a nice ferarri at the lights - i'd rather be in my Datsun. With Datsuns, generally the owners know every single little part of the car and the car is part of them. A ferarri owner is just that - a ferarri owner - he has no input to the car construction or engineering therefore i would not like to be seen as a ferarri owner because of the stigma attached to them. The only thing a ferarri owner does to there car is polish it - boring!! However - a ferarri would be fun to drive...

Douze......I think Mr Smith introduced us once , you had a pretty 510 you had painted or done the artwork on. Our local SCCA races went kaput 3 years ago and I've been trying to make it to VARA. I drive Steve nuts cause I keep saying I'm going to start running. I spent 04/05 retro fitting the car so I could do some Tarmac rally but then took the time to make it look presentable for VARA. 06 was to be the year, then I commited to instructing with SCCA/PCA and Racer Factory track days which conflicted with the fall vegas date and the June date I could only do Saturday so I figured since VARA doesn't do one day entries and I keep Sunday open for my wife and son , the money should go into a motor that puts out more than 85 HP.
At SMMR I'm driving the wheels of the car to manage 2:10's whist the very Spec Miata's I stay glued to in the corners are turning 1:59's. By 07 I should be out there, I only race locally though hence all the instructing at SMMR........it gets me free track time and being cheap (#2 reason for running a 1200) the no entry fee draws me to those events like a junky to china white!!

Oh let me know what VARA forum , FP HP etc , you are on. I've started on an A15 conversion but still have all the road gear on the car so I hope I can run some sort of Group 1 class....I believe 1200's are in HP.

We know how you really feel Steve.. It's ok.

For me, I love the people that like Datsuns. Owning Datsuns is merely the way to meet such people.

Just in case you fellas are a bit scared.. I like the female ones better.
