As for weight,
L Series engine was 15kg heavier as a complete engine with box carbs etc.
With a heavier diff planned (Corolla KE55 diff) and battery in the boot weight should be pretty evenly distibuted.

B210sleeper - You're right re. the L series. I changed everything after fitting a ca in place of the A14. The heavier motor out front completely changed the dynamics of the car.

i have 200# springs in the front, it's not rough at all on good roads, but on crappy roads, it's probably too hard, the stock springs were 90#

i've messed with the damper settings, setting 3 out of 6 seems to be pretty good

if you have an L series than you need to offset something in excess of 150# or more in static weight.

sounds right to me
6kg/mm
* 2.2 (lbs per kg) = 13.2lb/mm
* 25.4 (mm per inch) = 335.28lb/in

Cheers for the help guys, looks like i will be getting springs early next week now. Ive ordered some 275lb springs through maddat, hopefully they fit the bill.

I would like to get the car out soon get it sorted, other than the need to get it back on the road, im sick of driving my partners auto dato and she's sick of the one car thing.

By the end of the year i would like to have done a few supersprints and maybe a collingrove hillclimb, then its time for a cage over the chrissy break and start a season in a class that suits the car.

good point. there are alot of variables in suspension setup that will influence what spring rates suit your car. things like the front roll couple, front to rear roll axis, weight distribution etc. even the type of tyre you run - ie a semi slick will 'take' a higher rate than a normal road tyre.

and there's always driver preference too.

suspension setup is a black art, but a wise man told me years ago that when you're starting out (and even long after) you can do alot worse than copy what some of the class leaders are doing with their cars - if you can manage to get a peak under them that is... I kept doing that until I started to beat them, then I had to start learning for myself. And don't be afraid to experiment. Trial and error is a valid method! I made alot of errors with my setup along the way - learning what doesn't work (and why) is just as important as learning what does work.

Hey whitesedan,
I find the L20 is not the rev machine the A series was!! I feel it is just making noise after 6500rpm and the dyno sheet confirms this However, a wise member suggested I 'use the torque luke, the torque' ) and way hey she gets going when you shift at 6000 and replant the right foot Keen to upgrade my venturies from 34 to 36mm to get her breathing better - then maybe a few more top end revs to be had !!
Hope you can get up this way for an event - good to catch up with members - especially those astute enough to install the mighty L series
Cheers
