I've twice done it by taking of the sump and sticking a bit of wood between crank and block (for the crank bolt) - flywheel I've just hit the breaker bar real hard with a hammer and the speed of the turn has got it started.

oh... another "auto" question, the torque converter thing that bolts to the flywheel... how am i suposed to re-attach that, i.e. how do i ensure the fluid level is correct, i spilt a lot of it taking it off

Simply ensure that the trans oil is up to the mark & staet the engine. The rotating torque converter drives the front pump in the trans & circulates oil through the trans & converter. Keep checking the oil level while idling & top up as per the book.
Go for a short drive & check it again when you get back.

i got started on this last weekend, i pulled the auto out of the sedan for the coupe for DG.

i couldn't undo the flywheel bolts though, i need a rattle gun i think... i managed to undo the nut on the front of the crank trying to hold it still and then couldn't hold the crank still

how do other people jam the crank in order to undo/torque flywheel bolts?

anyway once the flywheel is out i can bolt the auto to the a15 and dump it straight in the coupe as theres no motor in it at the moment

then all thats left is the interior, i need to remove the race seats and put something a little more road worthy in, but other than that most of the tie-rods and those typically things have been replaced recently by previous owner so a road worthy shouldnt be too difficult

oh... another "auto" question, the torque converter thing that bolts to the flywheel... how am i suposed to re-attach that, i.e. how do i ensure the fluid level is correct, i spilt a lot of it taking it off

Well we came to a decision.

We're making the sedan a granny looking sleeper, with something special under the hood. So for now that'll probably be some sort of manual turbo project. Talk to rallycar he's the ideas man.

And the coupe is going to be my automatic.
And that should be done soon so i can get it roadworthied and driveable and everything and start working on selling my barina.

No one wants an auto 3 dr bright blue girl car? 1998 SB city model. Even has vinyls and seat covers and the sexiest hub cabs you've ever seen. You can even have the P plates free

i even have a gx head... but probably not worth changing from an a15 one

i was wondering about the cam, i have a sporty cam spare, as the a15 has the original cam, but with the auto im trying to decide which would be better, the stock cam will deliver some low torque, where the other will give some reviness, i guess low down torque would be better, and maybe rely on the non-stock carbs, exhaust and a thermo fan to free up the higher revs

hmmm, getting inspired to start putting this one together, considerably easier than some other projects i have on the go...

I forgot to include in my list the 120Y GX cam I have had laying about since '84. These are fairly tame, particularly in an engine with 27% more capacity than the A12, so I should still get good vacuum plus a little bit more pep.

Stay with the A15 head as the ports are pretty close in size to the GX ones, so they are more than adequate for the street, but they have bigger valves than the GX has, so for this application, the GX head really has nothing to offer.

The downdraught Weber will be fine as long as it is properly tuned. If the tuning is off, the vacuum will suffer & you will not get the full measure of joy that this combination should provide.

Go with the coupe, ... a hot looking car for a hot looking chick, automaticly.
