then if the sunny tailshaft doesnt fit, find a 120y with a h150 in it and steal its tailshaft

Thanks dodgeman, ill work on my terminology....thanks for the explanation! saves me exchanging the whole rear axle assembly and doing all of the associated mods it would require. i have removed the H150 differential form the sunny and will put it in the H145 axle housing (with the spacer ring and gasket). cheers

Ohhhhh, you say 'diff' but you dont mean the diff at all, you mean the whole rear axle assembly, which is something different entirely.
The 'diff' is the bit in the middle.

The H150 diff [differential] from a Sunny [B310] will bolt into a 1200's H145 rear axle housing, but the centerline of the side gears is 2.5mm further back from the gasket face.
Some people just bolt it in anyway & go, but others will use a 2mm thick spacer ring with a second gasket, which is .5mm thick. [one on either side of the ring] The combined thickness of the spacer ring & the second gasket will push the diff forward in the rear axle housing by the right amount, or so the theory goes.

This would overcome all the problems associated with making suspension mountings, then making the handbrake work, & also avoid those irritating problems with excessive axle width.

The 1200 driveshaft will not bolt to the new pinion flange, but the Sunny driveshaft stands a good chance of being the right length, so compare, & use it if it will fit.

Not sure what you mean about the gaskets and axles lining up, i was hoping to just bolt in the entire diff with axles, drums etc to the tailshaft. The sunny it came from has coil sprung rear end where as the 1200 has leaf.....

HA is Nisscode for the H150A differential & HB is for the H150B differential.

As previously writen, the number that follows is the code for the diff ratio expressed to the first decimal point, which can be a little misleading as the code '38' is for the 3.889 ratio. This is more widely known as 3.9 to 1

D/Man, What does the "HB" part denote?
I recently bought a 310 lower outer for my 140Y,310 coupe. The listing for all except the "HB" was the ball joint with the shorter offset. Next to "HB" it said A14, and (GX) in brackets. (In the parts book) I'm curoius about the "HB" part.


(My deepest and most sincere apologies for hijacking this thread)

You'l want to use the 1200 strut tops. And you'll have to use the 310 steering arms.
