i believe the weight difference you are talking about may be because the rta use the automatic version of the vehicle which is heavier than the manual this was the case when i engineered my vehicle

1200U, I totally agree.

It is the sedan weight, and the RTA weight for the sedan is actually heavier than any document I've seen for the 4door sedan.

The RTA is the people who apply this formula, and you may find they reject the engineers report, and refuse to register it when you turn up to the registry.

Just bloody get on with the conversion, instead of arguing with people here who've been through this more than a few times. Arguing on here is not doing you any favours. If you are correct, then rub our noses in it when you are done.

I do think that if you ask another engineer for a second opinion, you might find yourself confused..

You can go up to about 2.8 litre non turbo, without any probs.

Does that mean the L20 & SR20DE non-turbos aren't allowed in queensland. What about in a sedan?

ive got the official email about this for QUEENSLAND from the dot. The 2.5x equation is correct, however they have one set weight on there database for the 1200 (even though the ute, sedan etc are different). That weight is 730kg.

So 730 x 2.5 = 1825. With CA being 1809 it just comes under and legal. SR isnt.

Yeah datgo, i called him. Thats where i got the formula from. He also said it's the weight of my particular vehicle so that stuff about the sedans weight is wrong.

BVC you would have to ask the engineer how will be inspeting the car once its finished. If you can get from him in writing that specifically your car can accomodate an SR20DET and then go ahead with the mods and then he passes it then its all good. The onus is on him once you go back to him and pull out your paper and say that he would pass it.

you are in mullumbimby
try calling ray cross he is an engineer(automotive) and supplies engineers reports for registration of modified vehicles
if you tell him what car you have and what motor you wish to fit he will tell you if it is possible and what adrs you have to comply with do this first to save money and confusion. his number is listed in the yellow pages under consulting engineers
good luck!

geez what more do u want
dattodude already said it...

"it is the weight of the sedan that the weight is based on"

im sure ur maths are fine... BUT u have the wrong starting weight...

i have owned and engineered a sr20det 1200 ute in qld... It's was regd with the correct engine number etc, but it was technically not legal...

Thanks for the replies guys but no one has answered my question. Have i done my maths right or am i seeing things. The GVM of a 76 1200 Ute is 1315kg. Minus 500kg for the load limit and you have a vehicle weight of 815kg. Times that by 2.5 and you get the maximum cubic centimetre capacity for a turbo engine which is 2037.5cc. Just over 2ltr. So why are so many people saying that you can't get them engineered? from what i understand an SR isn't even 2ltr, its like 1980 something cc not 2000.
