Another quick was to work out approx flywheel KW the Hp at rear wheels is very close to Killowatts at engine or 25-30% power loss throgh drivetrain so 230hp at rears
=230kw engine =300hp or 230x1.3 =299 prettty close to 300

Hi azza,
The horse power calculator I use which is on Gordon Glasgow's site say's that there is approx a
25% drivetrain power loss from the flywheel to the tires. It does however mention a variable that is
hard to exactly guage like bad wheel bearings, tranny bearings and the like, that are different from car to car but the formula is a fair avarage to estimate what
is at the flywheel.
My old Drag car using a small block Ford pegged a
375 HP wheel dyno and was estimated that it was putting 425 hp on the wheels so using the 25% factor put the flywheel hp at over 500!
Hope that helps
Steve

I am just wondering how to convert back wheel power to flywheel power. All the motor magazines quote flywheel power, and l know my wheel power
from a chassis dyno.

there must be a quick conversion of kilowatts from wheel to flywheel for a datsun 1200? Can anyone help?
