None of my running cars are pre '86 so I'm sweet.

Techniacally the government has made a lot of pre 86 cars illeagle to drive on the road.
One of the main reasons is that they belive lead in the air is bad ( they got that right)
so they came up with unleaded fuel. now most post 86 cars are set up for unleaded with all the pollution gear cats etc but there was never anything that I can remember stating that we had to upgrade the polution gear in the pre 86 cars.
most of you who are running with out a cat are pumping benzine into the air this is more harmfull than lead in the air far worse for the environment.

one thing I would recomened is fitting a cat hi flo of corse any cat should fit in somewhere along the line. then do what people do with gas conversions and fit the upper valve stuff. this works the same as squeezing the little bottles into the fuel but its easier as you dont have to measure each time you fill up.

also get a tune to suit your regular fuel octaine if you run premium then tune it to 95 - 98 octaine if you run std unleaded tune it to about 92 octain fuel. your mechanic willl tune it (if he is any good)

Not changing the cat won't affect your cars running. It's an issue for the EPA.

It's a tough one to pick up, but if John Q Law wanted to run a fine tooth comb over your beast and you got caught with the wrong cat, it'll be a nice fine.

just stick unleaded straight in....92 octane is ok with factory ign timing. If you want performance you would need to up the comp and run advanced timing.

My old A12 ran sweet on PULP. The only issue I've heard of is you may need a new catalytic converter, as PULP has several more chemical compounds then the old super. Some of these are even more harmful than lead.

I'm no scientist though, so don't hold me to it.

the only problem youll have is an increase in fuel consumption so just tune according to the fuel

if this clears anything up, I have had two engines rebuilt by and old customer of mine.
I asked him what I had to do to run my A12 and A14 on unleaded, he said and I qoute unleaded still has lead in the fuel although at a lesser percentage than the old fuel he also said that alloy heads have steel inserts where the valve contacts now I cannot remember if he said hardended or not but I cant see them being mild steel.
My advise is to run a tank of Premium and see how it goes then run a tank on regular unleaded with maybe and additive and then try a tank of normal unleaded, see how it goes.
I had my A12 (freshly rebiult) running on normal unleaded with no hassles at all.
Also bear in mind the carby was fully rebuilt and all the ignition parts were new also.

Kidding - it should be fine on unleaded from word go.
