The problem is no body ever does this conversion the same. The problems I have encountered are different for others.

For example if I had mounted the motor 10mm closer to the fire wall. I would not have had problems with the steering arms hitting the clutch slave cylinder. And could have mounted the thermo behind the radiator instead of infront of it. And had more room for the intercooler.

There is a company - mad dat I think who will do a exchange cross member. I would probally do this next time.

Have fun

This might help: http://datsun1200.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=20986&forum=1#105058

CA18 box will fit fine in a auto trans tunnel.
I used the CA18 box (manual tunnel) & had to cut my trans tunnel, spread it with a jack, weld a new section in & cut a new gearstick hole.

Yeah i felt the same when i first started finding out info on doing my ute. It can get kind of confusing. There is more than one way to skin a cat though as they say so do what daveman says and use all the info on here to educate yourself as much as possible on the different options and just do whatever is easiest and best for you. Thats my advice.

start by doing a search on this site and read as much as you can.

Use keywords like ca conversion, diff upgrade, tunnel mods, hydraulic clutch, brake upgrade, costs, budget etc

HI all... you've all probably heard it all before but im really keen on a ca18 coversion to a manual 1200 ute.

Does anyone here know of any step by step guides on this topic. This conversion has been done time and time again but i cant seem to find clear info on everything that i need to buy and what needs to be modified.

Some places are saying ca18det gear box fits just fine, others saying you need a stumpy gearbox. Some places say you need this bell housing others saying you need that one. This axle that one. ARGHHH!!.

I just want a start to finish guide lol. Thanks for the help. BTW im new. My names jack and i live in syd, nsw.
