Alright rallytwit i will give it a try this weekend. Was looking around for a new one last weekend, even tried jts, but even he didn't have one. Guess i'll just have to make up my own. Should have plenty of time due to the long weekend........GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!!! Just kidding.....but not really!

Hey it seemed to be doing it a lot worse tonight when driving home and it was heaps colder than it has been. And now that i think about it, it was heaps colder a couple of weeks ago when i first noticed it. Would this point to anything in particular? I guess it contributes to the problem but doesn't really help me pin point what the problem is. Kinda frustrating really.

Cheers
Trav

Trav an exhaust manifold flange to exhaust pipe gasket will indeed lean out the car. Sounds like you have multiple problems going at once but replace the gasket.....should only cost $5 amd take 30 minutes tops.

Just keeping you guys updated on problem.

Didn't get to fit the a14 carby as the accelerator cable comes from the other side and i didn't have time to make up a bracket to make it work.

I did buy some fuel system and carby cleaner additive though and put that in my fuel tank when i filled up. It has definately helped the car accelerate and run a lot smoother but still has the cruising problem. I might just let the cleaner run it's course though and see if its still pulling back when cruising on the weekend. If it is i'm gonna get that spray stuff that you spray directly into the carby and float itself. Apparently this is more powerful and better than the fuel additive stuff.

Failing all this i'm gonna take the carby off and check the float. Was thinking this may be the issue cause seems to be worse just after i've opened the engine up a bit, not during. The final thing will be the changing the fuel pump. If it's not that then i'm just gonna give up and put up with it till i have my new engine put in, hopefully in about 6 months time.

Anyways hopefully the fuel system cleaner or carby cleaner will do the job.

Cheers
Trav

Mine is just a stocker a12.

Tried the swopping of the leads thing that mls suggested but with no success. So the carby must be clean.

Your exactly right though wurzel, i was thinking about it on the way home tonight and it could be a problem with the first barrel not opening right on the carby, cause once the second barrel opens it seems to fix itself a little and run a bit better.

Well thanks to BigD i have his old a14 carby in my possesion and that seems in good working order. As i understand it a14 carby's run just fine on an a12. So i might have a go at changing that over tomorrow if i get time after searching around for a new exhaust flange gasket and buffing my car up. I'll let you know how it goes though.

Cheers

Interested to find this one out...cos I have the EXACT same problem
Coulda sworn it was a carby problem...Ive had the jets, filter replaced and checked twice now...still the same issue.
Is this with a 32/26 on the A12 like mine Trav?
Seems to happen right in the middle just before the second barrel opens (im assuming)..unfortunatley at the absolute WORST range for city driving.

Sounds like there could be some crud in the carby.

Give this a try.

Put plug lead No.2 on No.3 plug and plug lead No.3 on plug No.2.

Start the car and give it a couple of light to medium throttle revs, you will get some back firing happening through the carby which is the point of the excercise.

Once that has been done put the plug leads back in their correct locations and see how it drives. If its better you at least know where the issue is and can either pull the carby apart and clean it out now or wait until it plays up again then clean it out.

Yeah, gasket in section where the manifold fits to the exhaust.

Don't worry about that though, found out it doesn't cause the issues that i am having with my a12. I'm trying to find out what is.

Cheers
