Guys,Guys,before anyone has the need to go get a bex and have a lie down,may i suggest you go to a good bookshop and purchase a copy of How to make your car handle By Fred Puhn.All of your questions will be answered(on page 70 actually)a library may even have a copy.Some people will be proven wrong and some right,but it's all about aquiring knowledge and it's way to complicated to attempt to put on this or any other thread,but a small teaser,its done with ride height,just as F1,Super Cars,drag and Speedway cars.HAPPY READING

This is quite a good discussion.
Anyone want to create for us a new thread with regard to workings of coil overs?
Then we don't have to hijack this thread.

", i just don't like datsun users getting the wrong information.."
Neither do I thats why I am replying.....You mention adding weight??? what the??

Yor analogy with the table is incorrect (the 1st analogy of the table is correct)since springs compress etc and table legs don't. Yes ideally you move things around to get the weight the same...however this has limitations.

Coilovers allow you to get the weights on the two front tyres equal and the difference in ride height will not be huge. Maybe you (tappet) should do some research into this before adding more replies.

i completly understand what u are saying guys,

Whitesedan,
yes adjusting the coilovers stightly or having a slightly harder spring on the drivers side will work for the street.... BUT how do u tune a car with 1 strut shorter than the others???
i like the table approach, if u have a large weight on one side of the table and the table is sitting on corner scales, what happens when u shorten 1 leg to get the scales even, then sit it back on a flat surface??? wonky!!

now what happens when u move the weight to the centre to even out the weight, then put the table on a flat surface?? it's pretty logical don't u think..

(i think this will be the fourth time i have said this)
corner weighting should be done by moving components or adding weight...

Now let this be the last discussion about cornerweighting in this thread...
make a new topic if u dissagree and ill glady write the same thing (for the 5th time)

1200gxman, sorry nothing against u personally, i just don't like datsun users getting the wrong information..

Thanks WhiteSedan. I now understand.
So, basically the spring "pushes" down harder than the other springs depending on how it is ajusted on the coilover setting.

This damn site and it's users teach me something new every day about cars.

1200GXman, how do I explain, if you have a table, on flat ground, one leg is 0.5mm shorter than the rest. There is less pressure on the shortest leg than the rest (obviously), lengthen that leg by some and the pressure will increase.

@WhiteSedan
Are you thus saying you actually can ajust corner weights with the coil overs?
I am now really curious.Logic just tells me that to increase corner weight you would fisically need to get some weight there.How can coilovers get weight in the corner by ajusting ride height?

@tappet
I am just the messanger. Strange that I can confirm this with a newer car. My friend has a 1992 Opel kadett 2 litre 16 valve. The previous owner cutted the front springs.The car bottomed out. My friend bought new springs from Opel agent and his springs had coloured markings on them.The guy told him this colour right and that colour left.

Just been discussing this last week with the bloke who did my cage, firstly you get the ride height / spring rate correct, then use the coilovers adjusters to get the corner weights correct.

To increase the corner weight yo would raise the corner of the car (clockwise on your adjuster). Do this in opposites (front left/right rear) and very small amounts, about 1/8 turn each time, only very small adjustments need to be made to get it right.
