The Dash is part of ADR21...

ADR21
The function of this Australian Design Rule is to specify requirements for the instrument panel to reduce its injury potential to occupant on impact.

Anything past 1971 will have this ADR specified.

What year model is your 1200?

If you are thinking of taking it out for just a little while, it's very possible the car will keep on going. But as Frank says, the steering column is supported by the dash frame.

yes but not legally a few things like indicators and such may not work tho
