You cant have trade plates on cars anymore that arent roadworthy.

Once again key word "Promo"
Yes registerable. But Special Purpose Modified Production.
Do you have a business that needs advertising?
Do you have a reason to require such a motor?
Put it to the Registration Authorities and let them assess your special needs.

2.0L non turbo isn't an issue getting engineered in a 1200 coupe.

An sr20det can be engineered in a 1200 ute in nsw despite what people think, there is a loophole that applies for commercial utilities that gets them through.

Key word "Promo"
But no difficulties in plain DE as Modified Production as stated previously.

There are always ways of getting around everything, you just need to have the right amount of cash.

Apparently you can apply got an exemption from the engine size rule and then you have to get your vehicle tested by the state government before they deem it roadworthy to register and engineer.

A pain but from what Scotty (maddat) said hes doing it here in SA with their promo car (SR20DET) ... id love to see that!

non turbo should be fine to get on the road, its the turbo SRs that are debatable as 1.8 turbo is supposed to be the biggest your allowed in a 1200

but DE should be fine. an engineer would be the one to speak to though

conversion was pretty simple.. cut off stock mounts on crossmember.. mock up motor and trans ... build mounts, i used volvo hockey puck style rubber mounts with stud going through it. Made a transmission mount.. used a s13 240sx sr20 radiator, found some hoses to work, got drivline made, mounted a 14 inch pulled slightly offset inside engine bay, you wont have issues with stock exhaust manifold hitting any type of steering box obvioulsy like i had to keep in mind. mod the s13/s13 sr20de harness to make it standalone type deal to wire up in datsun. I also did a baffle in my coupe fuel tank and made a new 5/16th feed line for fuel considering the original was 1/4 inch. I also ran a inline datsun 280z fuel pump. :)

The only reason I would think it would be different for utes is if they have a full chassis, which I dont think the Datsun does so it should be same for ute or coupe.

Have just got hold of my next project, as the title says, it's a 1200 coupe that comes with SR20de. Am wondering if anyone out there in NSW has done this conversion and got it on the road, fully engineered.
I have a 1200 ute with this conversion done but I understand that it can be different for utes.
Is there anything I need to know besides the usual?
I'd love to complete this conversion and have it as my daily driver, the power this engine gives my ute is awesome, failing the sr transplant I may end up going down the ca road.
Only time will tell.
