The problem is that you'd have to cut so much off the end on the L seires shaft, that I don't think you'd be left with enough of an input shaft for your adatper to get a decant hold on.

r-fast i meant no hostility towards you its just i was correcting you when you said the that they dont handle horsepower when it is more directly related to torque

is the 260z box roughly a same size box physically and weight wise, and how would i go about adapting it. i have a 56 series front that i could cut and shut, is that how you would do it?

Thanks for opinion datto1000wagon but I did read the thread - and yes I do understand that Kurt has an A series. Don't understand the air of hostility in your reply but to each his own - probably why some of the long term members drift away I guess.

Kurt - put the 260Z idea on your 'to do' list.
Closer ratios will get the most out of your A series - it would be worth the effort!!

hey what about if i machine up a collar to sit in the crankshaft spigot hole and then step it up to accomodate a shorter l series input shaft. so machine one side to be the same as an a series spigot and then machine a step up adaptor kind of thing which has the l series hole in the other end. (in more detail) which takes out all of the time of striping the lot just to get to the cluster?
at least i know what im saying i dont know if you guys will work it out from what i said.
just a thought

damn a14force i was soooo going to work tomorow to just do that. now i have to remove everything to lathe down the input shaft. lol
at least ive got a box to work off.
thanks for everybodys help, with any luck ill be running at the festival of sporting cars on easter weekend at mt panorama so id better pull my finger out and get it done.

Yes there is!
The OD of the L series input shaft is bigger than the OD of the A series spigot bush. So even with NO bush, the input shaft still wont fit in the end of the crank.

Providing the bloke doing the turning knows what he's doing, a lathe works fine. Christ, if anyone need one done I can get it done for you.

I'm just jelous that I can't afford a 1200 and that I am stuck with a 120Y...

Edit... Anywhoo, Given the 63a is rated to 175Nm of torque the reality of breaking one as easily as a 56 or 60 series is remote, unless you are doing burnouts or clutch dumping with slicks etc. Especially if you take some extra precautions like shotpeening the gears etc. Woody already has the A series 63a box and has busted the input and 2nd from memory so let him fix his bloody box!!!
