If you want a cheap running a12, check the papers and make a road trip down to perth on the weekend to pick one up. You could freight oe, buts its probably to expensive for that.
I would first get your mechanic friend to check excatly what the problem is. It might be cheaper and eaiser to just replace the worn parts.
Its unlikly that the bottom end is cactus for example, so you dont actually have to pull the entire engine.
Datsun parts arnt that expensive. Hec thats half the reason most of us are involved in them.

Do you guys know how I could get a decent condit a12 up to gero easily? I've got a mechanic friend who I believe would be willing to swap it for me.

Considering what the cost of a secondhand a12 is worth (good runner for $100-200 and a running smoker for $50 or less) Its not a huge expense to just do an engine swap.
If you cant justify that much, and the car is clean a tidy looking, like the pic, then just sell it as is, with dead engine. I could even take it off your hands if you get desperate. (im not converting to pogo-stick mike your safe)
personally, I would have a mechanic double-check to make sure that the problem is as terminal as you think. If so, just do a cheap engine swap and keep driving it.

the lifters are rooted? What do you mean? Is it tappy? #OOPS# man, the tappets are adjustable. It only takes about half an hour to adjust them.

well you could either part it out but its a hard thing to do if your attatched lol, you could get a new engine, obviously repair what needs to be done or sell it cheaply. it depends how you feel about it and if it is something you want to keep or get rid of.

These photos are a couple of years old, this is the basic condition she's in, just with a few rust spots :/ but nothing too serious.

I'm sad to admit that the lifters are gone in my 1200 ute, and I don't have the time/money/expertise or tools to repair it, so I have to do something with it, lol.
It's in pretty good nick, besides the engine, and I can't exactly put it on the open market when it is so obviously rooted. It still drives though. Anyone have any ideas what I should do?
I'll post some photos later on.
