perthute, i pulled an sr DET box apart a couple of weeks ago and compared to the RB30 box i also had apart. syncros were bigger, everything else in the front half was the same

RB30 boxes have the higher 5th like the SR DET box also

What crap. RTA has your engineers report on file its accessible to the cops on there computer system. You cant fool them if the bit of paper in ya glove box dont match RTA records ya gone. Therefore carrying around an engineers report means squat if you dont inform the RTA of the changes and give them the details.

Yeah exactly. You hear of people never getting caught but then there are horror stories as well. I spent a bit over $2000 on the diff but you get what you pay for. If your spending that kind of money you should be getting a top quality diff.

haha so pretty much means that i can drive it but at the end of the day the engineers certificate wont mean much since i wont realy meet rta regulations.. how much did you end up spending to do your diff + wat ratio??

cheers

and in nsw can i engineer a det?

Of course you can but if you get pulled up by a cop and he is wise to all the rules and regulations he may come down on you hard. You can pretty much engineer anything if you know the right people. It's the RTA that has the final say and that's what people don't understand. An engineer's report can fool the cops if they aren't familar with all the rules but if the RTA find out that you have engineered some huge engine in a tiny car that's when things become difficult. In NSW it's notimpossible just to find a dodgy workshop to keep passing rego for you but you can forget about insurance if everything's not 100% legit.

For example look at all the 13BT and even the handful of 20BT mazdas in sydney etc. Heaps of those are engineered but barely any are done legitly cause you simply cannot legally engineer them anymore. It's called cheque book engineering.

i have had a look and cant find any,

How hard are you looking lol. There are plenty of diff shops in Sydney that will shorten a Borgwarner diff for you. Mine was done in Sydney and came in under the Maddat price, You just have to pick up the Yellow pages and call shops up.

from owning a heap of silvias i found the box's in sr20de's to get crunchy quick and the resale of the box's is hard to move and very cheap

the sr20de gear box is singal syncro the sr20det is twin syncro

??? dont think thats right, DET boxes have larger syncros on 3rd/4th (same size as the 1st/2nd ones) and have a funky reverse linkage system. apart from that they are the same as DE boxes, oh and they have a .75:1 5th rather than a .86:1 or something like that...so not really any stronger

oh and cturbosa...why would you just scrap the wagon? if your thinking of the one that 2QK4U is selling, then id be more than happy to fly up there, pull all the SR stuff out for you, put A series stuff back in then drive it away
