thanks for that its a big help, im after either 195 or 205 tyres all round and i plan on doing guard work and that sort of thing before i give it a lick of paint, and as for not gettin the brakes on the 1k im always up for a good challange so ill let you guys know how it goes and hopefully ill have my phone fixed and be able to post up plenty of pictures for ya.\
still waiting on the brakes to arrive so ill let you know, also just to reiterate they are from a gts not a gtst and are actually quite small, very much so for a car of that size but i believe just right for what i want them for so i think ill see how it goes and get geared up for some serious cutting and welding to get the buggers on there.

thanks again James

You won't fit those brakes under 14's
Nor will you fit those brakes on a 1000 without serious mods

I used to run 13x6.5 on the rear of my coupe with 0 offset
The fronts were 13x6 with +6 offset
Even then they needed the lower of the front guard trimmed to allow it to steer
And the guard lips needed rolling and pumped out
I only ran 185/60/13 tyres
So 15's should be fun for you to fit

My wagon runs 14's with 195's and same deal as far as mods... plus the bigger tyre diameter the more chance of them rubbing on the footwell area also

You can do 15's... but they need to be spot on offset and tyre size

Yeah youre right bert, it was a bloody long drive to get it too, about 4-5 hours either direction but still well worth the effort, i sold the back seats and standard sunvisor for 200 same day i got it home so that was very good as now the car effectively cost me only 200, i was even allowed to borrow my old employers work truck to pick it up, so fuel was free, gotta love that word, free, now im just curious as to what offset ill need on 7inch wide wheels to avoid contacting the inner guards and suspesion parts, i do plan to flare if needed but i have to go 15inch wheels to clear the brakes that ive got for it, once again with the magical free word because a mate of mine has an r32 with standard gts brakes and hes upgraded to the gtst type m brakes this weekend, so ive got a full set of discs calipers and hubs, and to top it off they are the same 4stud pattern as the little 1k came out with, just a trip to a machining shop to get caliper brackets made up and then a hunt for a suitable maste cylinder and the old girl with pull up faster than if i hit a wall.
once again pointers and comments welcome, thanks for the heads up on the rover v8s, damn you wiki(shakes fist angrily at the internet) i think itll end up receiving a nice little 12a mild port with a small turbo just for kicks, all this is about 3 years down the track as im still on my red p plates and as such cant drive a modified car. ive got some 15's here to check clearances on the brakes when i get them later today so expect a post later on tonight with the verdict on whether or not i may be able to squeeze a set of 14's on her instead (not a fan of giant wheels so we will see how it goes).

thanks again James

STD DOT4 fluid will be fine
The new Toyota DOT3 thats about is for their ABS systems
Still will work
Just don't pay more for it when normal DOT4 will do

Rover V8 has already been started ... its heavier than SR20 though... the wiki is wrong saying its 144kg or whatever it is... the old Buick 215 was but the Rover is heavier

I think just stick to what you have
Uprating the suspension and body to take it will cost you alot of time and money and see your poor lil thou relegated to the shed for years in pieces

Drive and enjoy

thanks for the replys the only problem is im currently without a gregorys manual and the owners manual is missing some pages (no surprise being 40 odd years old) but i think ill just dot 3 the brakes to be safe and also would the gearbox being overfull cause the banging into gears aswell? previous owner was a little to generous with most of the oils it seem so i have to drain some out of the gearbox and do an oil change on the engine inc. filters and air and fuel filters etc. i just need a 12oo motor for the next 2 years anyway, just until im off my p plates because then its getting a full face lift, engine gearbox diff suspension body and interior, it gonna be expensive but i think itll be worth it in the end. im thinking of poping an na rover alloy v8 in her as they are still quite light and compact, any thoughts, criticisms or just encouragement is all very welcome.

thanks again James

i have just a few questions,
-what sort of brake fluid does the standard system take and roughly how much of it.
-what cause the car to jolt very hard when i shift it though reverse from park and then from neutral to drive (ive only shifted it around the yard as i have some small rust repairs to do before i put it on the road)
Cheers James

If you read your owners manual, or your gregories maintainance manual it will give you all the tune up specs that you need which will include the correct idle speed for an auto equiped car.

My 1200 is supposed to idle at about 600 or 650 rpm from memory & if the engine is running a bit fast, then it will 'bang' into gear.
Give it a thorough tune up & ensure that there are no vacuum leaks between the manifold & the trans in the rubber sections of the hose.

Your car is either a 1969 or 1970 DeLuxe model as these were the only ones that had the auto trans option in Australia & a 1200 engine [front distributor type] is the best present that you can give to your car as it will drive so much better & stronger with even a stock 1200 engine.
