It is possible to over cool an engine, not likely an issue on a street Datsun, on a standard 1200 once you get over 4000 RPM's with the 2 core rad it's going to run on the warm side. A 120Y rad will do the job (that's what we did) for a road car.............for our 1200 GX powered track car I run the GX 3 core radiator............rev it to 8K all day and it's often 100+ degrees out. (it does get warm in Vegas )

A15 only needs a tad bit bigger radiator than an A12.

Regarding gearbox, the A15 four-speed gearbox is very common and inexpensive, it is the same one as the A14.

The S13 rad is about as high as you can get under a 1200 bonnet with cutting something I would say if that helps with dimensions

5 speeds are pretty hard to find you could pay up to 1500 plus
Or you can find a cheapish one that needs a rebuild and pay around the same price upside of this is you have a rebuilt 5 speed
The input shaft is the same so you use your regular clutch disc etc,
The man to talk to is weekend1000 (mal)

Fitting to auto tunnel is easy, my 5 speed has 2 diferent mounting points so maybe one is for manual crossmember?

About the over heating do you have plenty of good rad fluid?
Im pretty bad for missing the obvious points ;)

a bit more, having said that there is definatly a point where it would be too big, runnin to cold it not great option engines need to reach operatin temp for sure and it is said by many that operatin at the top of temp range for engine is more fuel efficient not overheating though ofcourse.

i'm no expert and there is probably some scientific method of working this out, but i have been runnin a radiator from a corolla in my 1200 for quite awhile it works great and is a good 150mm wider and just a little taller than the standard 1
