Thanx for bringning up the good points. I've since done a bit of research (with my tape meassure) and decided the too hard basket is where that little idea will
stay for a while.

But a V6 conversion does sound rather apatizing might have to do a bit of research into that.
cheers for the info guys.

Mid engined V6 now ya talking! :) I think the biggest problem doing an engine transplant in a 1000 is the transmission tunnel is TINY, I had to modify the clutch fork on a sunny 4 speed
to make it fit.. fitting a larger box like a CA would probably require a larger tunnel, and I don't know how you'd go about doing that without making the chassis weaker..

I've spoken to a guy who has put a VG20 into a 1200 coupe, the engine was a japanese import, aparently they are a de-stroked 2 litre version of the 300zx VG30, sounds like a nice swap,
very torquey engine.

Ben, the biggest issue would be the width of the engine and gearbox assembly as it's transversely mounted. It would be way to wide for a 1000 by the time you had installed the GTiR
struts and turrets. Personally, I'd go with a CA18DET and forget the 4WD. One wild idea that might work though ...how about using the whole front clip from a Nissan Maxima which is
a transverse mounted VG30E (FWD) and building that into the rear for a V6 mid engined 1000!

Ben, Ben, Ben.
I like your thinking but unlike you I am to impatient to stuff around with a modification like that. I unlike others say go for the conversion and good luck to you.
I recently saw an FJ20t in a 1200 ute and it wasn't that tight a fit (not what I was expecting). By the way it ran 11.2 ET's with stock tires and suspension and diff and the rest. Don't
know how much smaller the 1000 engine bay and tunnel is though but good luck.
One of these days after I pay off a house I will undertake a project far bigger than this but unfortunately it is only in drawings at the moment. Can't say much other than the
Australian car show scene will be amazed and think I am crazy.

i'm with the other guys, forget the 4wd 1000. IMHO, You'd way better off to putting in a rwd CA-18DET... even a
Ca18de would be fun.

yes yes yes, i like the idea but like dattodude said, u need a second too hard basket!
i know a guy putting a nissan gtr 4wd drivetrain into a cortina wagon, not sure what engine tho, thing som fordy thing and not gtr rb26dett, anyhow it is a mega pain in the arse. probably
have as much fun by tubbing the rear strengthening chassis and fitting the SR. theres a guy here in adelaide fitting a CA18 turbo to his lil' 1000, ask 'val and dattodude' he knows the
guy.

I think you might need a second 'too hard' basket to put this in.

It'd be almost impossible to get registered. Too many mods. But maybe it's possible.

The front end would be the tricky bit, and by using a GTiR front end to get you the varous 4WD front bit would make it easier, but It would involve shortening halfshafts and
changing suspenstion parts so it all fits under the guards.

So all the original 1000 suspension would be removed.

No doubt it would involve putting in a much larger tunnel, and I don't think a 4wd engine + gearbox would fit in a little ol' 1000 engine bay.

The chassis may not cope and might twist out of shape. That would make all of your work wothless as the wheel alignment changes everytime you give it some throttle. You wouldn't
need a strut brace..more like an 'entire-chassis' brace.

Could be fun...would be expensive, who knows.

Chris.
