As much as it's tightening up here, I thank my lucky stars that we don't have such killjoy laws here in NZ!
A bloke I know has pulled the 13B PP out of his 1200 sedan, and is building a 500hp 13BT for it. And it's predominantly a street car too.

cops often dont know much when they are lookin under your bonnet unless they are an enthusiast themselves, but it doesnt take an enthusiast to know a loud stinky motor like a rotor and defect it.

Bang on the Money!!!!!

i agree also with u dodgeman, i dont practice what i preach, but i am in the process to talking to engineers to get it rego for insurance purposes :)

by Dodgeman on 2010/1/26 1:13:03

I think you must be living in fairyland as all I have read from you is 'how do I sneak my unregisterable car past the rego Nazi's "

As I have writen before, even if you succeed you will get caught out when you smash it [I'll bet real cash money on it]
That's when your problems start as you will be charged with the relevant traffic offense, then with driving an unregistered & uninsured car. [These are automatically revoked once it is discovered that the vehicle is illegally constructed.]
If another vehicle is damaged then the other persons insurance company will come after you PERSONALLY in order to recover their loss & any other incidental costs that they can dream up.

Save yourself the grief, go see an engineer & follow his guggestions completely & give up this thought of trying to get past the regs by deception.

Here's a heads up. If by some means I discover that you [or anyone else] is pulling a swiftie like this, I will be on the blower to the RTA Nazi's to let them know.
There are more than a few of our members here that I know would be doing the same thing too.
I have no intention of allowing any of my family or any of my friends to be sharing the road with an un-engineered & potentially unsafe car if at all possible.

David maybe someone has said it was a 13b but it would have been a mistake, in NSW a 13b is rated as a 2.6 litre capacity so its a no no.

In NSW the largest rotary engine you can legally put in your 1200 ute is a 12a.

If you were to go down the path of doing it on the sly you would most likely get picked up and defected sooner or later especially if you are under 25.

If you had an accident in the car and someone was killed or injured they will throw the book at you.

Some years ago a mate with a Celica that had been fitted with an 18RG got defected by the cops and the citation stated "rotary engine fitted".

Well you could go down to your local AUVIS and ask (drive a different car to the station).

But maybe just talk to an engineer about getting a VCCS, as it seems almost certain you will need one.
