If you have a dyno tuner do the adjustments, you should be able to get 28 city / 38 @ 55mph with a 100% stock 1200. If you have modified the heads, cam or exhaust do not expect to get that much.

I recommend an Extrudabody A14 EFI Kit, and Twin Extrudabody ITB. That part is $1300. Get a Megasquirt ECU, pre-built and use one of the preset 4-cyl maps. Have your fuel tank modified for EFI with return line, baffling, and high-pressure pump. Add the safety relays and wiring. Finally when you have it running, get it to a dyno tuner to adjust the air/fuel ratio.


I'm doing a budget project with factory Datsun EFI and Datsun ECU. I have all the parts, including EFI fuel pump just need to put it all together. I have about $300 in it. This way is labor-intensive but inexpensive. Several guys have already A12/A14 running this setup, so it's a tried and proved method.

Yep. Total of about $2500 if buying new.

You could do EFI for about $300 with used parts, including some factory Datsun EFI parts, like a Datsun ECU. There are several guys sunning Silvia ECU on Datsun A-series engines.

well i have been doing some searching and I am going to convert to EFI and have found several companies that have an efi system where the ecu is less than 800 and then ad the parts to make it work. injectors sensors etc...also there is mega and micro squirt systems and they require some extra work but are under 500

If you are getting that much fuel economy, why change it?

Aftermarket EFI will be about $2500 USD.

Thanks for your replies.

I have decided to go with EFI. I get about 32mpg on my carb engine now. Will an EFI improve this or will it be the same. Which EFI would you all recommend.

The Hilborn system is little more than a controlled fuel leak that is idealy suited to all out competition engines, but is very hard to set up for street driving & very few ever get it right.

Ddgonzal is right, sourcing one from an existing car is the way to go but why not consider an electronic system.
They have a great deal to offer, not least of which is tunability. This is why the entire motor industry has gone this way, ... tunability for emmisions purposes, for economy, & for all out power.

A mechanical system does not offer the ease & simplicity of the electronic injection & they can be used in so many different configurations.
Fuel only. [like mechanical]
Fuel & spark.
Full everything [like new cars]

Think about it before doing anything.

Hilborn is no good for a street car.

You could use Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical injection from a German car.

Hello,

I am a newbee. I am from the caribbean Trinidad and Tobago (Brian Lara). I would like to convet to Mechanical fuel injection. I have read the Tech page but woul appeciate I some one can give me a break as to what parts I would need and from which cars.
