Ha ha..thats what I had to do to. I just removed the ballast and joined the wires (just in case the coil/dizzy didn't work, would be able to revert back to the points dizzy easy enough)

yeh thats what i was going to do,but was thinking once i remove the ballast i will have no power there.i think im thinking to much and should start doing.thanks mate

Heya Greendog, All I did mate was swap the -tive & +tive wires from the old coil over to the new one. Then just wired in the dizzy wires to the coil as well. red: +tive and the black: -tive. Hope I did it right, haven't started the car yet. Still awaiting my carby. Hope this helps mate, but like I said, it's not tested as yet.

hey strop im about to fit my new dizzy and 12v coil.just looking at it im not sure what wires to use to power the coil?ill have the two ballast connections and the original +ve what have u used.

Ah, OK. The guts look the same as Aussie Vanette Distributor, but in a different case. Replacement parts should be easy to obtain.

The dizzy and the coil come together as a set, so I would expect that they are compatible.
The coil has no markings at all and the only markings on the dizzy is the etched numbers 0951. Not much there. There are made for the A series engine, my old man bought it for me so not too sure from where though.

So wire both the leads from the dizzy to the coil yeah?

What are the numbers stamped on the distributor body?

Looks like a late-model A12 electronic distributor. My ute has one of those. Or should I say it looks like more like an original A12 distributor with the guts out of a late-1980s Nissan distributor.

What sort of coil is that? Are you sure it doesn't draw too many amps for the electronic ignition? Looks like a newer coil, but the ignition guts looks like 1988-1990 E16 or GA16.

Looks like a dizzy I had once, positive and negative wires went to the coil. Factory dizzy wire was not required.
Not a stupid question by the way.
