Thanks guys! Definately looked like a different car after all the dirt had come off...!

I've started a thread in the project section so have a look if you're interested, I'll have a lot to post up soon!

Cheers.

Looks a lot better when it's not covered in all that red dirt. Good luck with it. I look forward to seeing your progress reports.

That'd be me, picked it up on Friday.

I'm bulding it with an SR20det for 3J Improved Production, and it's a great base.

I've stripped it all down already and bar the bolt-off panels, it's actually in very good condition. Under the carpet the floors are perfect and i cant find that its ever been hit or had parts replaced.

I'll be using the majority of the Maddat catologue (SR conversion/brakes/sus/diff etc) for the build as Scott is going to help develop the car. Obviously we'll be making some adjustments to his off-the-shelf packages to better suit what I'm hoping to acheive and some further changes need to be made simply to stay within the rules of the class (no cutting rad support for cooler etc..)

Thanks to ssskiwi (Deano) for selling me some excellent doors, and have some new front panels on the way.

I'll start up a build thread to show progression as the plan is to be completed by the end of the year.. BIG ASK!

Ps. I've now got a few coupe parts I dont need so throw me a PM if you're after something (not panels, they're staying for spares). I'll also be selling the stock motor/box package asap so make an offer if you're interested. I'm located in SA.

Cheers, and here's some pics after a good clean...

Yeah I think they had left them out in the garden a bit to long (shame)but looked like they had a few nicer toys (hot rods etc)which needed the cover.

As far as the coupe that started this thread, Laverton wreckers say it has now been sold.....anyone on here the new owner???

Yep, young fella off here bought the shell to redo his coupe that had been rolled.
Yeah, the sedan was pretty shagged in the engine bay, coupe was good there but when rolled down a slope, rusty water absolutely bucketed out of the sills! Few other issues but would have been recoverable with the right skills and dedication...

Are those parts off that coupe you bought in Ringwood.
What happened to that shell. I ended up buying the sedan that was sitting next to it (but it was a bit to rusty to bring back to life so I sold it off).

Well if anyone does pick it up, I have the doors and rear windows available here in Melb to fix up the easy rust issues..

I can say I got a comepletely rust free coupe! Amazing as it came from right next to the water in Sydney southern suburbs but had always been garaged. Paid 4x what they want for this one tho..

Good to see that some people are intereseted in saving this. Even with the few rust issues it's still a good project start. It's almost impossible to find a 1200 coupe with NO RUST these days, they are in their late 30's after all...
But like cadet1200 says, it's probably not worth $1000.
Typical wreckers! They ask top dollar for it, nobody will buy it so they will probably sell a handfull of parts off it and maybe make $300, then scrap the rest... I've seen this happen many times before... These types of wrecking yards are the bane of the classic car enthusiast!

I went out to see it on friday. The thing is sitting out in a paddock and looks like it's just come from the Nullabor as it's covered in red dust (including the whole engine bay and interior. They say it runs but has a miss in the engine (I couldn't hear it as no key!). It does have rust in the right rear quarter just under the window, both rear side window frames are badly rusted, the righthand gutter is rusted, theres a hole through the righthand door and both front guards and bonnet have seen better days. The seats are shagged and dash is cracked....but on the good side, the floors and engine bay appear to be rust free. This thing really requires a total resto, but being an auto would be a good base for a conversion....I just didn't think it was worth $1000 and they didn't want to negotiate.
