Just been relisted and checking the ratios against the Wiki for the std 60L, it looks like it has had the 3rd/4th gears replaced and the selectors modified as per Fandatstick's prior post. Still has std 1st/2nd ratios so not a true C/R, would make it a reasonable box in a road car but 1st would just be too low with a low ratio diff - 4.8:1 etc..

I'm interested!
I have both a 60L and 60A and have had brief (very uninformed) thoughts if something liek this is possible..
Sounds like I need to pull them both apart to look further into it..
Do you have abny other info or contacts regarding this?

Regarding converting an OD 5 speed to a 1:1 5-speed - it is theoretically possible with a 60L (ie the dog-leg 1st box. The reason for this is that the standard box's 4th/5th shift rod uses a 'flick-over' lever to achieve 1:1 4th where 3rd would usually be in a standard 4-speed. If you eliminate this in a standard box it would swap the position of 4th and OD 5th. Then you use a custom gear-set with what was OD 5th as an under-driven 4th gear followed by 1:1 5th.
Stock pattern & gears) R-2-4(1:1) 1-3-5(O/D)
Stock gears/mod'd pattern) R-2-5(O/D) 1-3-4(1:1)
Mod'd gears & pattern R-2-4(U/D) 1-3-5(1:1)
..... However, I remain sceptical this box has had this done until I've seen a picture of its internals.

Don't worry, I too thought it would just be as easy as getting a new gear set but doing a bit more research into it burst that bubble.. I like what they have done with those Hewland gearboxes, a splined layshaft makes ratio changes really easy, it seems all of the local gear cutters reuse the std layshaft and weld new gears onto them. I want to know the shift pattern for those boxes, do they still have the std (or dogleg) pattern or a bastardised pattern to make 5th 1:1?

very valid point that... I didnt think of the mechanics behind the shifting sequence. The only hybrid 60 series box I know of with a direct 1:1 5th is built in the US with Hewland interals. There are several for sale atm. ~$ 3500 USD. Suitable for the track only I would think.

I saw this also and think it's well suspect! It doesn't matter what gears you get cut you cannot make a 1:1 60series 5 speed unless you stuff with the shift pattern! Std 4th (1:1) is the input shaft directly connected to the main or output shaft, you cannot get "gears cut" to change this as there is it doesn't involve any ratio changes via gears! However you can do things like get 5th remade to a suitable 1st ratio (still in the 5th gear spot tho) and then cut new ratios to fill in between your new first and the "new" 1:1 "5th" (actually old 4th and still in the std 4th gear position). You then have to deal with shifting all the way across the gate when changing from "new" 1st to "new" 2nd.. Race car only stuff really.. Too much of a PITA for a roadcar..

yes, custom gears have been made for the 60series. It is not a factory design.

As far as I know, all 60 series boxes are overdrive. If this one is direct 1:1 in 5th, then I reckon it would be a custom sprocket.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=308146690Not mine. Must say I'm pretty sceptical. Description matches 56A 1:1 5 speed yet it's a 60 series case. If it really is genuine would be a great box.
