I have a 5speed for sale if anyone is interested. $600aus + $100 shipping (is in NZ). Box is in good condition (used it for over a year in my a15 Sunny, no crunches) and only needs a shifter bush as the old one was rooted and I replaced it with a plastic one.

I too prefer the 4-speeder, it's much livelier. If I want a 5-speed I'd choose the dogleg as the ratio is a bit better than normal 5-speeder's IMO.

Id love a 4 speed with 2.6,1.4,1.1,.5 the torque in a mild a15
does the rest in a humble b10. However for you chris you need a
serious cam downgrade to enjoy all that non-existant low/mid.

There is nothing like grunt on the street and I can only dream
what Lemonheads-like 83mm bores with stock a15 crank would be like
with your head and milder camshaft.

I hardly use the 5th gear.....makes me wonder sometimes.

It's mostly because of the motor though, doesn't like any gear at low rpm. Fifth is only used when I'm going at higher speeds or when I'm going downhill.

Sorry for the irrelevance but was saying it in support of levey's comment. So far the best gearbox I've used in a Datsun was the 3spd column shift behind the A10, talk about suited to the motor.

If you are after a 5-speed put your name down as a keen & interested recipient of Mal's (weekend1000) 5-spd breeding program

I know you want a five speed but have you considered the 60 series 4spd? Its a very nice box with similar ratios to the 5spd.

Not to mention any A series box under $1400 has likely done a squillion k's and would need to be rebuilt(if you can get the bits)for nearly the same again.
I'd go the celica or L series box with engineered A series bell housing grafted on the front.
There is no such thing as cheap Datto stuff anymore
