haha i paid 40 for a pair of brand new 175/70/r13s ,there just right on my 7.5 inch jellies and cos there cheap i dont mind skidding them , plus dads tyre shop helps with fitting and balancing them :D

do it yourself with hairspray and a kitchen stove lighter, i do it all the time, hook the compressor up, spray around the rim light, stretches right over, typical holden heroes with there aus spec uglyness

yeah bead blast the only way :) should have it back tomorrow

Ok so heres the deal,

I used to run a tyre shop and we sponsored an AE86 the guy ran 15x10's, 15x10.5's and 15x11 rims with 195/50R15 tyres the stretch was unbelievable heres a pic of when i bolted one to the coupe!










No probs running them on the track as long as we kept the pressure up around 40-44psi.

For the street there are laws governing the minimum tyre size than can be fitted to a rim (also maximum) so thats possibly why they wont want to put the 145 on the 7" rim! - I'm sure you guys all know the implications of going against the rules and regs in your states (no 3rd party or full comp insurance cover...ect...ect), you can get around it by telling the tyre guys that its for offroad use only, show car, track use..ect and guarantee them that you will not be using them on the road. That gets past the liability thing for them, I used to write it on the invoice to clear myself of any liability.

If they're having problems fitting them ask them if they have a "bead blaster" its used alot for truck tyres and 4wd tyres but works a treat for stretching tyres as well it basically is a tank that holds compressed air that you blast into the tyre to expand it onto the rim.

If you are _really_ stuck, buy the tyre outright, then use a rubber mallet to get it on the rim (if you don't know how to do it, I'll make the genuine offer to do it for you - I'm north of the essendon airport, and would only have time to do so on the weekends. Done 'right' with a rubber mallet, it'll mount the tyre onto the rim, without damaging it (manual tyre levers aren't usually a good idea on alloy rims)

OK so that gets the tyre on there, but doesn't push it out onto the beads to seal.

The only way you are going to do that (though I do have a compressor and am more than willing to try it, but think it won't work, just too much of an angle to push the tyre beads out onto the rim) - anyway - the only way - more than likely - you'll be able to mount it is like this :

You don't have to use hairspray - wd40 works ok'ish, and very small amounts of carby cleaner spray work very very well but I don't know what effect the carb cleaner solvent would have on the tyre rubber itself.

If you did that, you might then be able to take it somewhere and they'll balance it, but you might find it just as hard to get someone to merely balance the already fitted wheel/tyre combo.

From the workshop's point of view, there is inherent risk, and even if they warned you of the risks but still fitted it, and something happened, they'd be legally accountable for it
