As a Subaru man as well as a Datsun man, I have to correct you. I believe the differential that both companies use is the Hitachi R-180. That would be the IRS diff found in Z-cars.

I've been to told that if there is any problem with the standard diff a bluebird diff centre bolts straight up to the ute diff housing but, the axles have to be modified and shortened.If you want the same ratio as te ute you will have to use the diff centre out of a station wagon.What i'm interested to know if the TRX bluebird diff centre which handles over 200hp(well FJ20 in a TRX handled it!)will fit?

It's really the torque that would affect the differential. So a high-power A12 would be easier on a diff than a stock A15, which has considerably more torque. The H165 is used by the turbo Subarus, aren't they? That should be plenty tough for most use.

I'll try and answer all 3 of your questions in one post. Your diff, will be fine if it's a 165 that is the bigger one fitted to the later bigger engined utes. If it's the 145 1200 diff you may find reliability suffers. Most people have moved on to a stronger diff than run a diff that is marginal as best. You can have the axles & carrier shot peened to remove stress in the parts. On the GX manifold issue they are increasingly rare and I wouldn't be using one on a competition car. If you want extractors they are still available in OZ and if you have problems they are easy to source here in NZ. The same with 5 speeds, if you get really stuck I can sell you one I have at least 5 at the moment,I grab any that come up for sale. Wayne...

I'm sure it's fine with 150HP.

So long as you don't try to kill it all the time.

eg. Fly backwards at 60kmh, whack it into 1st or 2nd and drop the clutch!

I'm going to run one with a 300HP CA18DET, I'll tell you how long it lasts.

im just wondering if anyway has an idea of how much horse power a 1200 ute diff (4.11:1) is good for and if anyway has had trouble with breaking diffs, i think id have 100-120hp
