Run a tap over those threads to clean them up. Do it carefully.

So I got a new nut and that works like a charm. Problem now is that the column threading is damaged. What size do I need to rethread this problem? Really need a reply asap as i'm selling the car on the weekend

And use Loctite to make sure it does not come loose , But make sure there is some thread viable to actually hold the steering wheel on with, It is not funny if it comes off in your hand while driving.

If it was already tightened to maximum safe torque,, tightening it more will damage it.

Just fit a new nut on to it. Tighten until the washer compresses, no more.

Take a close look you will see if the nut or the column thread has stripped.

Went to tighten the nut on my steering column this arvo and with barely any pressure I start seeing metal shavings coming out. Now my steering wheel is completely loose and the nut isn't tightening down.

Is this a nut thread or steering thread problem?

Need to move the car back into the garage but can't change directions
