you would not believe how long it takes to fit one of those central locking kits for the first time, did it once, NEVER AGAIN

well its probably worth it but expect to be up till the wee hours of the morning if you plan to do it in one night, actually i did my four door car two doors at a time

ACtually if you read the Hadnbook (If you have one) it goes ont to tell you about the feature that your datsun is equiped with that makes it impossible to lock your keys in the car by making it so you have to use a key or lock form the inside....

It is meant to be like that. I foudn it annoying at first. But I have never locked my keys in the car.
I would get central locking though if it bugs you too much...

I have just replaced the weatherstrips in the doors because I was worried about the water problem. (Not that it is a problem at the moment. Out here its the dust you need to worry about )

I never buggered mine, and they were jaycar specials..I've seen mine not lock a few times because a door is not closed properly..

I guess it's possible, but it appears that if they won't go down, they normally pop open again. The alarm will arm, but your doors won't be locked.

Water is the biggest killer for the solenoids. Try and mount them so water won't easily run down the shaft, and run silastic around the casing where the fusion weld the plastic shell together. You know water gets them when they stop working and become very "ratchety". The little electric motor rusts and siezes. WD40 and a good wash down with metho normally fixes em up again..

It is an advanced feature to stop you from locking your keys in your car. The funny thing is that on most Datsuns after 30 years, you can open the doors with any key (or stick). heheh. So locking your keys in your car is not such a big deal.

my passenger door wont lock or unlock with key only way to do it is from inside when the door is closed, that is a pain!

Easiest to get central locking.

When I have the doors open on my ute, I cant push the button down to lock the door. They will only go down when the door is closed.
Is this normal?

Every other car I have owned, it didnt matter if the door was opened or closed, you could push the button down and hold the handle up when you shut it to lock the door.

It annoying to have to shut the door and lock it with the keys all the time. Svae me locking my keys in though I guess 8)
