ernal, all those other cars you mention are built to their series regs; the Mosler is a GT Sports Car (and even if it's being produced in limited numbers, that's still a huge difference to the one off Monaro), the V8 rwd Magna is a Future Tourer and is allowed to fit the category's control spec engine/gearbox/diff with 300bhp.

These were just 2 of the ten invited categories for the 24hr race.

The Monaro is built for the Procar Nations Cup Category. The 24hr race was simply its debut in the Procar Nations Cup series.

have a look at the rule book for Nations Cup and then make an informed comment. CAMS 3E - Series Production Cars, my arse!

It's the only car that wasn't playing by any recognised set of rules in the 10 class 24hr race. That's the problem - especially when it is built to compete in what is essentially a production car category for exotic/supercars.

Cars are dropping out of world rally because of lack of success all the time, you would be suprised who does and doesnt have cars in WRC (world rally championship) at the moment, the V8 magna like i said before is a test car for what will be on the market in two years

The mosler is like a WR-car in that like a wrx you can get an sti or lancer an evo, but there are very few, its just they also have a cheap road version also,

if you woke up one day and wanted to buy a mosler and race as a privateer you could, the v8 magna you will be able to, but the monaro? no chance, thats the difference in my mind!

what you said about f1 is not entirely true either, and that tiger woods thing is a totally diffrent can of beans because now your talking about the skill of the drivers

but anyway im going to try and let this go now

What about the Mosler then?
You couldnt a street version of the Mosler specced the same as the one raced. Making a handful of "production" version of the Mosler hardly fits it into the production car category I reckon. If you look at their website, you can count on one finger the amount of cars that dont have racing livery. I wonder what the focus of their company is? The MT900R is purely a racing car.
And sign me up for a rear wheel drive V8 Magna. Oh, cant get one of those either.

Its crazy to say the internationals wont come back if our local car kicks their butt. Did Formula 1 lose cars when Williams or Ferrari have dominated? Nope.
Are cars dropping out of the World Rally Championship because the Peugots are dominating? Nope.
Maybe we should ask Tiger Woods to start 3 putting so he is a bit more competitive too

My head hurts now

wrong!!!!

the skline was a production car and was kicked unfairly, if they sell that holden to everyone then they can race i but they aint gonna do that so thats where the problem is, any joe bloggs could buy a gtr skline with the same motor and stuff as the race car yes? obviously not same tunning but then it would be unsuitable for road use

Yeah, I think it is just pretty much the same type of thing going on here.
But with Holden Monaro instead of Nissan Skyline and a different group of people are upset about it...

The red photo above looks like a Celica (the yellow doesn't), but the Monaro is much bigger, isn't it?

It looks good in the Autoweek Photos. In any case, the one we're supposedly getting is GM Gen III 5.7 liter (Corvette). And it's mid size car in american terms. It is also supposed to have 350 lb-ft of torque, but don't count on it, cause that's a Net torque rating which is all so confusing as to really exactly how much torque that is.

We should probably continue this discussion in the existing topic "pontiac GTO/holden Monaro".

Getting back to the topic, the Bathurst sounds like a great racing event. After re-reading this, it sounds like they did what Nascar does regarding "stock" cars: the body panels must be in production, but the engine, drivetrain, suspension doesn't. But even Nascar fudges on that and lets body changes happen for the sake of "competition", meaing if the Chryslers are losing, they let them use a more advantageous wing size to keep up. So it sounds like Holden needs special allowance to "be competitive" with production-based Porsches and Ferraris ... is that a fair summation?

Looks slightly Mustang-esque to me. How do they compare size wise?
Is it true that it is available with a six speed, at least down there?

And here I thought it was Genital Motors that made the cars so that they fall apart!

But seriously, I haven't seen this new "GTO" yet. I'm looking forward to it. There is a Pancho dealer right up the street from me and I scan the lot every day. Ok, that's a lie, I almost never look at that lot. I am excited about another RWD V8 though!
Bring back American, oops I should say Australian muscle cars! Yee-haw!
