Thanks for the ideas. I like the idea of spending the money on a 1200 ... but the wife won't even ride it in let alone drive it. So the subaru is really for her.

Yeah, the Mitsu Evo is only one year old in the US. I'm not a fan of the looks, and the Impreza STi is faster accelerating (and an even "300 HP" sounds nice). The Evo is supposed to handle slightly better though. But the Evo looks like an inexpensive Lancer dressed up. The WRX looks tough and sold quality. These aren't facts, just subjective "how I feel" opinions.

Unfortunately we never saw the GTR in america. The only Skyline we have is the 2004 Infiniti G35 coupe and sedan. Those have really good sounding engines.

I have considered the 2004 Pontiac GTO (Holden Monaro), but ... here we have the 4-dr Cadillac CTS-V with 400 HP gen III engine (for less than the price of a Corvette Z06 406 HP). That car fits my style (no wings or big scoops), but is about 10,000 more than Subaru.

I guess we could get a run-of-the mill Subaru Forester 2.5 Turbo, then turn up the boost, but if I wait a year maybe they'll start selling the Forester STi here (with factory warranty).

Ah, so many choices. This is not like the 80s in america, when performance vehicles could be numbered on your fingers.

If you want one, & can afford it, then go for it.

DD why dont you buy an Aussie built but rebadged Pontiac GTO...or as it is in Australia a Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) Monaro. It has great street torque and good handling and looks the part too.
They are coming out here in Australia with 270kw all alloy V8 ZF 6speed and 4WD.
......I still love my Nissans FIRST, for anyone got a sharp arrow pointed at my comment.
Or the GTS with 300kW rear drive

heres the American web site:-

and the Australian website:-

SoCal Datsun Guru, "Norm," just bought an WRX STI. The justification is that he races it in SCCA ProSolo.

He's now selling his 510 that he's had since 1975! but will keep his 610 Coupe that he's restoring (at least for now).

Sorry to revive this topic, but I'm feeling tempted again: Subaru Forester STi Version with 2.5 STi engine.

I like Forester better than Impreza ... and my wife has been talking about getting a Forester for a couple of years now.

I've looked at doing AWD in my 1000 coupe.
I'd need to use GTR gearbox to keep the north/south engine configuration.
This is on the backburner but might be something I'm going to do to one of my coupes. It already has IRS so surely AWD can't be that hard.......LMAO.
I've done a ton of measurements and I think its do-able.Fabricating the front suspension will be tricky but I have some ideas there.
I need to work out a way of getting the VG30 to adapt to the GTR box but I'm sure I can get some sort of adaptor plate custom made.
I already have rego approval for the VG so were half way there.
So imagine that....AWD VG30DET IRS in a car that started off weighing 625kg and should end up weighing around 850.
Vroom Vroom.
