Surface rust on extractors...

Hi all, I bought a good second hand set of genie extractors late last year with the idea of fitting them to my car.

Anyway as with all good intentions I just got around to pulling them out of the garage on the weekend and they are covered in surface rust - and when I picked them up heaps of small flakey bits of rust fell out of the pipes.

There are no holes in them at all but my question is are they now stuffed? They never got wet or anything while in storage - they just sat on a shelf in the corner of my garage.

If they are not stuffed what should I do to clean them up again before fitting?

Matt.

They're not stuffed - just give them a wire brush to remove any scale and surface rust. If you want to you can throw some white VHT (or same such) paint on. Looks good for a while - although that eventually burns off.

blow through some nice hot exhaust gas....

Just kidding you could blow it out, but I dont think it will make too much differance. Just wack em on.

Unless they are stainless they are not going to last forever anyway

just last week i had an old set of headers sand blasted then aluminium sprayed (comes out like a rough grey surface) and they came up a treat. infact i will soon be selling them right here on datsun1200.com, as they are not headers for use with twin webers (or throttle bodies perhaps) eg garbage
i took mine to Brookvale Abrasives, on Ada Ave in Brookvale (for those of u who know Sydneys northern beaches)

as for permenantness of the paint, i do not know - if any1 here knows about alum spray plz say!
