Guys,

I have been reading up on a few old Topics regarding this but it seems as if this question is still in limbo.......

Im looking at purchasing a 2l turbo set up (FJ20) in a 1200 ute from ACT and wanting to engineer it in NSW... Is this possible>>?

I used to own a FJ20T 1200 ute which was fully engineered but it was engineered in 2001 and was fully legal even got taken over the pits and passed. some may say the laws have changed but.

There is also a 1200 ute in Sydney with plates FJ-1200 it running a FJ20T and is fully engineered and this was only done this year.
He told me it was done buy a guy in wollongong next time i see him il find out some details so yes it can be done.

There was a blue 1200 ute with an SR20det in getting around a few years ago.. I think it had the numberplate 'BULLET' or something similar. Mind you I don't know if it was legal or not but the bloke drove it around.

In NSW this is how you work out maximum CC's in an engine conversion of any car.

FOR A TURBO FORCED INDUCTION ENGINE you simply times the weight of the car in kilos by 2.5

And FOR A N/A ENGINE you simply times the weight of the car in kilos by 3

you also calculate that formula off the factory issued weight, of the sedan bodied variant, so its 770kg's ive gone over this so many times, by the rta it is not engineerable but there is probably exceptions to the ruel, i reckon the rta and police will catch on soon. the police around my area know a certain dodgy engineer and if u are pulled up and the cops see's a certificate from this guy they still book you, it happened to a mate of mine.

I was reading over the rules one night and my interpretation was that you cannot have it engineered as a modified production vehicle (MPV) if you go over the capacity limits. However, it didn't rule out the possibility of it being engineered as an independantly constructed vehicle (icv). So the short answer is yes, but it would be quite a bit more hassle than an engine that is within the guidelines of an MPV.

If you got it enginered as an ICV you would have to meet all the ADRs of a 2005 vehicle.

Is this the green one?

Some if not most engineers in NSW will probably say no. My suggestion is to contact as many engineers as you can, I do know of some that used to engineer these a year or so ago. Failing that I would contact the RTA and ask to speak to the head inpector for further information. Advise that you are looking to purchase a vehicle in the ACT that is engineered and registered but you are wanting to register the vehicle in NSW. If you get the ok, make sure you get it in writing.

If you like I can pass the info of a place that may engineer it for you in NSW.

Just to add..

If its the car I am thinking of BULLET was an ACT built and engineered car that a friend of a friend built. Last I heard it was in QLD.
