i went to speedy tyres, in launceston and got a price for some 205/60/R13
Nankengs Fitted balanced. $95 each

then walked down bathurst st to Tirepower
$115 for GT radials Fit/Bal
$75 for retreads

and last but not least (i mean that) quickfit with $117 fit/bal (some sounded #### brand)

so what should i go for, i thinks the nangkeng's...

Yeah The NanKengs sound good for the price.

I got GT Radials for my Pulsar, and they've lost their loving feeling already. Not great tyres. I would'nt use them again.

Based on your wheel/tyre selection, I'm guessing that you can't get good branded tyres in those sizes?

Like good brakes..good tyres are cheap insurance.

I run 175/70 r13s. When I had no money I ran cheapo Barrums and Silerstones. $59 each. This time I went all out. Well not really decided to pay an extra $15 for bridgestones. Feel much nicer too. The silverstones were actually a good tyre. Wore good and gave reasonable handling. They are still on the back serving out their days tortured of course.

When I first bought the datto it was running 165/75/13 of a decent brand. (Bridgestones) And they were pretty slippery. The extra 10mm made a huge diff. Also im sure though you could run a skinnier tyre but opt for a better tyre to accomodate.

i was only lookin at them for the rear, the speedy guy said they would be a squeeze on a 6" rim but would be nice once on there, think about it 8" tire 6" rim, look fat i recon. i was thinkin 195 55 or 185 60 on the front, it has on it now 175/75s they too tall though and rub under the guard.

Why on earth would anyone consider retreads? Especially when the brand new Nankings are only $20.00 dearer.

Occasionally tyre dealers will have second hand tyres out the back. These have 80 - 90% of tread left and are sold really cheaply as the previous owner has upgraded to something larger or better. I bought 4 Michelin 175x13's from the local Beaurepaires for only $140.00. Fitted and balanced for the price. Found them to be pretty good.

Don't ever buy retreads!!! There is more to a tyre than the depth of the tread. Personally I have always been a big fan of Bridgestone. Every set I've had have been a good compromise of grip and longevity. But they are dearer than most brands.

On the KB10 I have Advan 032R, 205 60 13 , they will cost double the Nankings but you will be driving a different car.

If your spending big on building up your engine, dont skimp on your tyres because thats when you will really need them.

205/60*13 is a pretty common size - or it used to be... so you should still be able to get name brand stuff, but you might not like the prices. but "no-name" brands are a gamble - you can end up with absolute junk or a good tyre - its pot luck.

Simex S8000 are about the only cheaper tyre I've ever driven on that I liked. They were actually very good. I don't know if they come in your size, but if they do get them. I had a set a few years ago and was very happy with them. I'll be getting a set of them for my R30 Skyline when its finally ready- $130ea for 225/50*16 for the Skyline.

I wouldn't buy R spec tyres for a road car - they're noisier, they tramline, they are not as good in heavy rain, and they won't last very long... And after all that, you will rarely ever get to explore their limits on the street. They are a waste of money for a road car. If you can afford them - great! but save them for the track - don't waste them on the road.
