Well the B10 is rego'd and I am happy about that but the bloody thing has a starting problem that I can't figure out. It winds over and kicks heaps but won't start points plugs leads etc all spot on but I found I only had 5 volts at the dissy so I tried another coil no go so I tried a coil with a resistor still 5 volts at the dissy but if I by passed the resistor 8-9 volts at the dissy and car starts great but probably to many volts for the dissy so I thought maybe boost the power to the resistor so direct 12 volts set up from the solenoid at the starter so it gets higher voltage when it cranks over 12 volts one side of the resistor and 7 at the dissy starts but still unreliable worked yesterday but wouldn't today. now this 5 volts at the dissy has me stuffed where is it going ?? as that is not enough to start it and why do I get 8-9 volts at the dissy when I by pass the resistor I thought it should have been more??? I have near worn out my multiu meter and as you can see hit desperate levels here can anyone put some light on this. Oh it only has problems when it has been sitting over night once it has been started it is fine. what i have been reduced to doing is by passing the resistor to start it let it run for a couple of minutes then reconect the resistor to drive it What have I missed thanks all

That sounds like dirty or poor connections between the resistor, coil, distributor and black and white power lead that feeds power to the coil. I would start by cleaning each connection there and checking power at the black and white wire that feeds the coil, does it have full 12 volts there? how about the earth connections? they can be the root of many electrical problems, a quick tinker with some emery tape can do wonders

hi blofly it hass10 volts at the black and white wire yeah maybe I better check the earth connections it started easy enough this morning even at 0 degrees here in canberra but that is with the jumper cable connected from the starter soleniod to up the volts at the resistor. Oh well looks like the weekend is a sheet of emery and a 6 pack :) thanks for the input mate

one other thing I forgot to add is the starter solenoid is switched directly from the key switch, it has been a big problem for all 1200 owners in one time or another and could be the start of the problem, it may pay to look there too after earths and other connections are cleaned up and if the problem still persists
