Hey guys,

I was going to use the s13 CA 'box for my conversion, but I got talking to a guy from a reputable engine importer and he said if I used the CA 'box, because it is longer, the shifter would come out through the handbrake!

He suggested I use the 'stumpy' L20(HR30 skyline) box, as the shifter would come up in the original position!

Can anyone confirm this for me?
The car is a sedan btw.

cheers
DATSIN

dats true. but the HR30 box is not very strong - actually pretty ####, S13 box is almost bullet proof. all you have to do is cut the tunnel open a small bit, widen it alittle with abit of beating and the box fits up, just have to weld it up again. No big deal, but i would rather cut the tunnel than use the stumpy box.

but yes it is comfirmed.

I use a Gazelle 5spd in mine, It fits in the tunnel and the shifter comes out about three inches further back... Haven't broken one yet!

Hey gx1200, (love your car btw) Is that the 'special gazelle box', that looks like an s13 box but shorter? or looks more like an L-series box?

Nah, gazelle or Pintara or S3 bluebird... anything with a CA20 in it really.

Cheers. Adam.

Errr doesn't a CA20 box have a CA bellhousing - as it was originally bolted up to a CA?

Am I missing something here?

Yes a ca20 box bolts straight up.

My gearbox install was similar, basically cut back to the double thickness panel, after removing the handbrake reinforcing plate from underside of the tunnel.

I know there is a shorter S13 style box, was 3 times the price of my s13 box. SSS wanted $600 for it and $180 for a S13 box, back in the day. It too would come almost straight up the hole. I kind of wish I'd have gone for that, but was outside the budget back then...my project budget has stretched more every year it has been going on for.
