Hi guys,

we are currently in the process of installing a Weber 32/36 on an A12 and I'm just going through the process. The carby is mounted and the throttle linkage is done. Looking at it closer though and comparing it to the pics I see of everyone else's, We have 3 different fittings for the fuel supply.

Since I don't particularly specialise in carbies, I can't work out why we have three and most people have one. Can anyone tell me what is what?

So in order:

(1) Some people have this on an angle similar to 2 (is this fuel?)
(2) Some people run their fuel line into this (is this fuel?)
(3) This looks like some sort of air line but I'm not sure if it has vacuum in it (or much)
(4) is this good for the vac advance to the dizzy?

Do I use one and block the other off?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys

of 1 and 2 you use one and plug the other (fuel in). 3 looks like a float bowl overflow... not sure what to do with that. Yes I think 4 is vac advance

i can help u with one and two. One of them is fuel in and the other if fuel return....make sure u get them the right way round as this is how i sezied my old mark2 escort engine. if u look at the inside diameter of the brass fitting one will be much smaller, that is the fuel return. it will still run with them the wrong way round but at full thorttle/load engine will run lean..

Thanks guys. I'll be working on it tomorrow, I'll see how we go.

Which actually reminds me I can't seem to work out where the fuel return is, there's something mounted on the firewall where 3 hoses meet and 1 runs from the back to the block, another to the second hard fuel line (next to the feed line on the body) and the third was attached to the carby. It's a little strange why it goes to the block

[EDIT] you can kinda see it in the background on the picture, with the smaller hoses running into it (not the coolant into the firewall for the heater).

Datsun 1200s, like most carbureted cars, do not have a fuel return line.

1, 2 - one is the fuel supply line. Curtiss says the other is a return line, so block it. Some 32/36 have two supply lines. If they look equal take your pick and block the other.

3 - Vent, connect to charcoal cannister

4 - ported vacuum, connect to distributor

See 32/36 diagram - RedlineWeber.com

As D-man said only block no 2 off do not use it. I,ve had a lot of esky,s and thats the way it works.. U will enjoy this carb it works real well on the A12!! Best thing I,ve done to mine. {Love that induction noise..} Oh yeah Also left stock 2 lt jets in it, I was concerned that fuel economy would be down the toilet but I actually get better mileage!! Go figure?? Spesh with steel caps and size 11 lead foot!! LOL

I learned a lot from my 32/36... i can tune my car pretty easily now... since i removed the damn thing. if you have a NEW one it might be ok, but a used and overhauled ones gave me a huge amount of trouble... good luck, you'll learn a lot.

On my 32/36

1 - is blocked off
2 - fuel goes in
3 - is taken out (going to atmosphere)
4 - is vacuum adv for dizzy

I didn't use the existing fuel rail that runs around the front of the rocker cover. Mainly because the outlet of the fuel rail is much smaller than the inlet of the Weber. Instead a rail a fuel hose around the back of the engine against the firewall. Nice and tidy like.

Carby was tuned for an A15 but works well on my setup, GX head, oval port etc etc.

Some pics they may help you...

Thanks very much for all your help guys.

We got it on and running today. It took some time to get it going to fill the float bowl but then I drizzled a little fuel into the throats and it fired up straight away. After 5 mins of tuning it was running sensational, picking up revs really well.

We took it for a drive up the street and it went pretty good, still needed a little fine tuning.

Then I took a shot and went up to the end of the street (about 500m) and it didn't like 3rd gear. When I pulled up at the end of the street it stalled (like it ran out of fuel). It started back up and drove back to the house, as soon as we got to the driveway, it stalled again.

Now after messing around with the settings thinking it's lean, it fires up and runs for about 20 seconds then stalls no matter what idle mixture setting I use.

Any ideas guys? I though maybe fuel pump but then it'd not start up... so float level?

I have no idea.
