Nissan MIGHT be able to tell you - give them a call.

Being pre-compliance, I wouldn't get your hope up though...

Man, have we got it easy in SA or what...

If it is pre-ADR, and if Nissan never fitted a build-date plate, then it would reasonably be exempt. Not that the government is always logical, but instead of panicing, find out if it is expempt.

USA models have a government-mandated date plate on the driver's side door pillar.

I called into O'connor licencing centre 2 days ago. I asked an examiner what the go was with registering a pre compliance dat 1000 wagon. After asking if I had nothing better to do, he said it should be OK to relicence without a compliance plate

Of cause its ok to licence anything without a compliance plate. Its how the vehicle was sold. Anything Pre '69 doesnt have to comply to ADRs. like it is 100% legal to have no seatbelts in a pre 69 car. But if they are fitted you must wear them. Dads XP doesnt have seatbelts, got over the pits no worrys. No compliance plate
either.

Donno what the go is with modified ones tho?

There is a member here who can work out the build date... cant remember who tho... Im sure they'll see this tho!

I waited in que for ages yesterday at the technical section where the decisions are all made, so that i could get this straightened out.

The requirements for compliance with ADR hasent changed. You still have to comply with what was required at the time of manufacture.

The doner engine still has to retain its pollution gear where applicable.

All mods have to pass the usual tests.

The biggest change is the paperwork requirements.
1. You have to submit PRIOR to starting your project an application for modification listing every detail about your car possible, and every mod planned. This includes details like what size tyre, and how many HP it will output.
2. You still have to have engenirers approval, and certification. They must be an approved one, as listed by the licensing centre. You can use others, but if they arnt listed, then its upto the vechicle examiner at the time the car is inspected to determine is the certificate is valid.
3. Every modification now has checklists that you must fillout after the mod has been done, and these must be presented at the time of the vechicle inspection.

in the end, the actual requirements of quality of build hasnt changed. it still has to comply like before, its just that now you have to substatiate it with paperwork.

Coming from an industry that is heavily regulated by state law, and understanding the need for proceduralsation and documention, it all makes sense. They are trying to make vechicle modification accross the board the same, so that the diffeences between inspectors is minimilisied.

Despite the increaded paperwork and pain, i have to support it . I can see why its neccessary.

Still, cant they just let us have what we want and let us be!

Yea I tend to agree ,
I've seen some pretty shadey mods in my time,
not only the jap stuff,
it seems some people are spending the money these days on suspension and brakes rather than just go fast..

I guess if we mod them properly we have nothing to worry about...
