make a u-shaped cross member to bridge the difference, if your lucky enough some 4 speeds have a location for a second mounting which lines up roughly with the auto tunnel mounts

Use the original holes and either make up a u shaped gearbox crossmember As said by 1200rallycar or extend your original One. Or source a 4 speed box with the 2 mount points on it one near Tailshaft input which will almost line up with mounts on tunnel just have to enlarge the holes in cross member slightly.

Yeah but i think going off mine and a 4 speed it will be a lot bigger as in U shaped not u shaped especially if you dont have the box with 2 mounting points one near the tail shaft input and one near speedo input get me drift ?. Also learn from my mistake and make it thicker say 5mm plate minimum i used 3 mm and it bowed within a week though it made a good template for a thicker one.

3mm Plate!

Out of interest which ones did have the two sets of holes? i.e how could they be distinguished in regard to vehicles model/year?

Well i have herd the second holes are for an exhaust bracket, but they look usable for cross member to me. The 5 speed i sold conehead had the 2 mount points and some 56 a 4 speeds i have seen since have the 2 mount points. As far as specific models they came in I'm not sure others would know a whole lot more than i on this and many other matters or Wiki will give answers ive been using the wiki lately its awesome.

hey thanks for your help guys...

i could see how it would bend over time, its a fair distance, did your coupe have a plate made up like this andy?

i had a look through my gearbox collection and ive got 1 with the mounting holes by the tail shaft, pretty sure it has no reverse tho damit
