The H89 head is an A15 head.

H89 is used on A14 and A15 engines. It is a B310 (1978-1982 Sunny) code.

depends where in the world you are. The A14's I've seen here have had H75 (Or 72?)

Yes, indeed. Depends on where in the world you are. But with so many "used Japan import engines" sent all over the world, some care may be taken with identifying parts.

H72 is a common A14 cylinder head, it was originally a B210 part number but also fitted to some B310 cars. H89 is a B310 part number, and the H89 head was used in both A14 and A15 engines. For more information on what the "Hxx" type codes mean, see Nissan 'Applied Model' codes

Perhaps the most important thing for newbies to realize is that A15 parts (except for the crank/pistons) are not necessarily any "bigger" than A14 parts. A15 and A14 are nearly identical, the most important difference is the A15 has 7% more displacement, hence more performance all else being equal. It can also rev as high an as A14, albeit with slightly more wear at high revs due to the longer stroke.

The one question i have not seen answered
is whats the difference between
h89 & h891? I have one of each and the
only physical difference is the h89 has had
the manifold water jacket blocked, but this
could have been done by anyone.

All Datsun A-series heads since 1974 are specifically made for unleaded. And all the 1200 ones will work fine with unleaded.

Take pics of face, top and both sides and post them here. We'll help you analyze the differences.
