1200 Coupe Disc Pad clunk

G'day,

I have just had new front pads installed in my 1200 coupe, now there is a clunk noise when brakes are applied, especially when reversing, applying brakes, then forwards and applying brakes (at slow speed). Sounds like pads are moving in callipers. All pins, springs, shims & clips are installed, as well as new wheel bearings. Problem was there before wheel bearings were replaced. Brakes still work fine.

Any thoughts most appreciated.

Sounds like caliper bolts are loose. Check them.

Also check the wheel bearing adjustment. They may have been loose and are still fitted loose. They are supposed to be tightened moderately hard, backed off then put finger tight (zero play). If there is any play in them they can clunk.

Can be pad knocking too. I have this as I dont run backing plates.
If I forget to apply the brake pad goo on the back of the pad I find brake piston retracts the pad isnt retracted fully from the disk.
So when braking the piston travels through free air til it contacts the back of pad and this clunks when it bites the rotor some times.usually when cold

With nice new thick pads, i'd think 'piston fully retracting' is unlikely. Unless residual valves have been modified.
