Hi guys I have a ? about chroming some parts on my ca18.So can a water pump be chromed as I don't want it done on the inside as it might affect the bearing,or will it.

Many of the cast engine bits are normally polished and a protective coat of clear is applied.
Like: http://www.kbs-coatings.com/diamondfinish-clearcoat.html

I heard that chroming shops might slowly disappear due to regulation of the materials/chemicals needed.

It happened here. There are still chroming shops, but less of them, mainly the most expensive ones.

There are some chrome paint options that work well.
Also a mirror type finish that I saw on jay lenos garage

Can you even see much of the water pump once the cam belt covers and water pump pulley are installed and the engine mounted into a 1200? If anything the thermostat housing and alternator would be the most visible parts in that area.
