That pretty much confirms what I had always heard. Datsun had always been a part of Nissan and they just dropped the Datsun name in the 80s.
I did find it interesting that they state the reason for the drop was Nissan didn't want to sell cars under two brands anymore. Then in the next sentence (or two or three) they introduce the Infinity line to compete with the Le Sux, oops that should be Lexus, brand of Toilet-a, oh sorry that should be Toyota.
Thanks for the link. I'm re-inspired to go work on my projects!

Nice site , plenty of cars, racing Datsuns, cool. One question, is anybody know where I could get a couple of Datsun logo license plates for my cars? I have a 1200 ute, a B210 and a 610 that would look good with a Datsun license plate.
Cheers.
I'm about to have a Fosters, in the name of the aussie fans!

Datsun was a brand name for Nissan, like Chevrolet is for General motors.
Begining in 1979, Nissan began to change the corporate name from Datsun to Nissan to give better corporate identity. While I don't know about other parts of the world, here in the states, starting in 1979 vehicles were badged Datsun by Nissan. The plan was that by 1984 most would then be used to the Nissan name and starting as of 1985 vehicles were badged only as Nissan.
Nissan is one of the oldest new car manufacturers in Japan. The link will give those interested a history of the early beginings of the company.
And to answer your question in a more direct way, Datsun IS Nissan
