You need to get 2 bits of wood or something similar ( about 1ft long ) put one peice each side of the axle in between the plate you onbolted and the diff housing and hit them at the same time ( like your rowing a boat ) they should pop out ...works on holden banjo diffs ( i blew plenty of them up in my Torana )

Hey PVG,
just put the brakedrum on backwards (so the surface the brake shoes run on is toward you) put a couple of nuts on (diagonally) about 5 or 6 threads and pull the brake drum towards you quickly. It will work as a slide hammer and shock the bearing enogh to dislodge the crud keeping it there.
Hope this helps,
Cheers

Hey, thanx all for ya help. i worked out the problem, and it was still a bit tight gettin it off, a bit of rust was holdin it together there.. i've replaced the diff, but it aint the same. the back piece.. *sorry im not mechanically sound* isnt matching up with the tailshaft. i got the new diff out of another 1200, and yeah so what am i havin to do now? am i needing to replace the Tailshaft ? or the end plate of the tailshaft ?

Is the diff centre from another ute or is it a sedan / coupe one ? How many bolts hold the centre in place? Could it be possible to have a ute that someone has slipped a whole sedan / coupe assy under so they could rob the H165? Tailshaft flange should match if you remove ute centre and replace with ute centre! Describe what you have and we'll try to help !!
Cheers

Ok, im guessing that could be the problem.

I have a ute, and if i can remember when i went to Narangba Wreckers he pulled it out of a 1200 sedan.. they both have 4 bolts connecting them... it too late now, but i can even take a few photo's tomorrow morning and hopfully work out how to post. em on here...

another method:
grab a length of chain, and put the ends around the studs, and screw the nuts on to hold em there, thengrab a length of pipe, and wack the loop of the chain.
saves you hitting any of your car parts
